May Message from
Principal Laurincik:

It’s amazing how fast time flies and how much progress our students have made as we enter the final 6 weeks of the school year; we are excited about ending the year in a strong way, especially with our attendance.

On the first Friday of the month, May 2nd, our students will receive their 4th Quarter Progress Reports; please make sure to ask to review this important document and sign it and return it. The Attendance Committee will also be selling Chips and Drinks to raise money for our 4th Quarter Attendance BAG Incentive.  The cost is $3.00 for both, or  $1.50 for one item.

On Monday, May 5th, there will be a FREE Cinco-de-Mayo Out-of-Uniform Day; please wear colors depicting Mexican Culture.

For our 8th Grade Class of 2025, results for High School Principal Discretion Decisions will be posted on GoCPS on Friday, May 2nd.  This is the last step before Graduation for the High School Application process.  We are so excited for the next steps for our Graduation Class of 2025!  In addition, the 8th Grade Class of 2025 will take their final elementary school field trip on Thursday, May 22nd; they will visit several downtown Chicago destinations.

The first full week of May--May 5th-May 9th is Staff Appreciation Week.  Please make sure to share a thank you in person or via email to your children’s teacher.  We owe all of them a debt of gratitude, not only this week, but all school-year long.

Our May LSC Meeting will be held on Monday, May 2nd at 8:30 a.m.  in the school auditorium. Our May BAC/PAC Meeting will be held on Friday, May 23rd  at 8:15 a.m. in the school auditorium.

Urban Initiatives will be hosting its final event of the school year on Thursday, May 15th; it will be a Family Game Night from 5:30-7:00 p.m.

On
Monday, May 19th, Summer Camp Registration will begin for the Urban Initiatives Program being held at Clay School.  The last day for the Urban Initiatives Afterschool Program will be Thursday, May 22nd.  We will have a party with our after school students in the program culminating the year from 3:00-5:00 p.m.
The PTO will be selling Popcorn and Juice on Friday, May 16th; all proceeds will help fund our end-of-school-year events.

Our Ethnic Assembly will be held on Friday, May 23rd.  Cheer, Hip Hop, Band, & several classrooms and students will be performing.  In addition, on Friday, May 23rd, as we celebrate our diverse ethnicities within our school with our Ethnic Day Assembly, students are allowed to wear colors that depict their own ethnicity; this is also a FREE Out-of-Uniform Day.

Mr. Perry will be having a Medieval Fair with the 6th grade students on Friday, May 30th.  This event will take place during the school day, and a detailed flier for specific details will be forthcoming to all 6th grade students.

There will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, May 26th in observance of Memorial Day. Wishing you a safe and fun 3-day weekend with family and friends.  Upon our return from the 3-Day Weekend, we will celebrate all of our Clay students with the Dia del Nino Celebration on Tuesday, May 27th.  There will be FREE snacks and bounce houses for the students to enjoy during their extended recess time.

Until next month…
